Privacy Policy

Effective date: April 4, 2026  ·  Last updated: April 4, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how NoteZap ("we", "our", or "the app") handles your information. We built NoteZap to be a simple, private note-taking app. Your notes are yours — we have no interest in reading them, selling them, or sharing them.

Short version: Your notes are stored only on your device. Google Drive backup is optional and uses only your own Google account. We show ads to keep the app free. We never sell your data.

1. Information We Collect

NoteZap collects the minimum information needed to function. Here is exactly what:

Information you create

  • Note content, titles, tags, checklists, and reminders you write inside the app.
  • Settings and preferences you choose (theme, font size, sort order, view mode).

This data is stored only on your device using a local SQLite database and Android DataStore. We do not have access to this data.

Google Account information (optional)

If you choose to connect Google Drive backup, we request permission to access your name, email address, and Google Drive file storage (scoped to files created by NoteZap only — we cannot read any other files in your Drive). This permission is used solely to read and write a single backup file named notezap_backup.json in your Drive. We do not store your Google credentials on our servers — there are no NoteZap servers. The backup file lives in your own Google Drive account and is under your full control.

Advertising data

NoteZap shows ads provided by Google AdMob to keep the app free. Google AdMob may collect device identifiers (Advertising ID), IP address, and usage signals in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy. We do not receive or store any personal data collected by AdMob.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To save, retrieve, and display your notes on your device.
  • To back up and restore your notes to/from your own Google Drive account, if you enable it.
  • To send you reminder notifications at times you set.
  • To remember your app preferences (theme, font, view mode).

We do not use your information for any other purpose. We do not profile users, build user models, or use note content for any kind of analysis.

3. Data Storage and Security

All note data is stored locally on your Android device using Room (SQLite). Notes protected with a PIN use a salted SHA-256 hash — the PIN itself is never stored. Lock data is intentionally excluded from Drive backups to prevent exposure.

Google Drive backups are stored in your personal Google Drive account and are subject to Google's own security practices. We recommend keeping your Google account secure with a strong password and two-factor authentication.

We do not operate any servers, databases, or cloud infrastructure of our own. There is no "NoteZap account" and no NoteZap backend. Your data never leaves your device except when you explicitly choose to back it up to your own Google Drive.

4. Data Sharing

We never sell your data No third-party analytics No marketing emails

We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise transfer your personal information to any third party. The only third-party service that receives any data is Google AdMob (for advertising) and Google Drive (only when you opt in to backup). Both are governed by Google's own privacy policy.

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of users — but since we do not have access to your notes in the first place, there is nothing for us to disclose.

5. Permissions We Request

  • INTERNET — Required to load ads and communicate with Google Drive.
  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS — Required to show reminder notifications on Android 13+.
  • SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM / USE_EXACT_ALARM — Required to fire reminders at the exact time you set.
  • RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED — Required to reschedule your reminders after the device restarts.
  • ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE — Lets the app check connectivity before attempting a Drive backup.
  • READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 12 and below only) — Required to attach files and images to notes.
  • Google Drive (DRIVE_FILE scope) — Requested only when you choose to connect Google Drive backup. Limited to files created by NoteZap.

6. Children's Privacy

NoteZap is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent and believe your child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us so we can help.

7. Your Rights and Choices

  • Delete your notes: You can delete any note or all notes at any time from within the app.
  • Disconnect Google Drive: You can disconnect your Google account from the Backup screen at any time. This stops all future backups. Existing backup files in your Drive are not deleted — you can delete them manually from Google Drive.
  • Revoke Google permissions: You can revoke NoteZap's access to Google Drive at any time via your Google Account settings at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
  • Opt out of personalised ads: You can opt out of personalised advertising on your Android device via Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID.
  • Delete all app data: You can clear all app data (notes, preferences, and cache) from Android Settings → Apps → NoteZap → Storage → Clear data.

8. Advertising

NoteZap uses Google AdMob to display banner and interstitial advertisements. These ads help us keep the app free of charge. AdMob may use cookies and device identifiers to show relevant ads. NoteZap products are ad-supported; we do not accept direct payment from advertisers to influence the app's content or recommendations.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

10. Contact Us

If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your data, please contact us. We will respond as promptly as possible.

You can reach us by opening a support request through the app, or by emailing us at the address associated with the app's Play Store listing.
